The group was formed in 1971 under the auspices of the Arts family, as St. Joseph’s Folk Group, but quickly developed to include a variety of musical styles and genres as it expanded beyond the implicit boundaries of folk music. We sing Church music across the ages from the earliest times to the present day, 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-part music accompanied by a variety of instruments including acoustic guitar, whistle, flute, etc. Much of the music has been composed or arranged by the group itself and some has been published by World Library Publications, a division of GIA.
New skilled voices and instruments are welcome. Knowledge of liturgy would be a distinct benefit but may be acquired within the group.
The choir sings hymns and choral tunes – contemporary and classic – from Hymn Books and other authorized music accompanied by the melodic tunes of an Electric Acoustic Guitar played by Isis Rebello.
Accompaniment is provided by the church organist, Gerard Johnston and Keith D’Souza playing the Djembe.
Visiting musical artists may accompany the choir from time to time.
In addition to the Holy Masses, the 9:00 am choir performs at other events in and around the church. Below are a collection of excerpts from the various performances.

St.Joseph’s 11 am Sunday choir was founded in 1955, and with such a long history of serving the parish community, it is also known as the Senior Choir.
The choir sings a mix of both traditional and contemporary hymns for Sunday liturgy, and provides music for Christmas Midnight mass and Good Friday (3pm). It also has special music programs for both Easter Sunday and Pentecost.
Accompaniment is provided by the church organist, Gerard Johnston.
