Reflection
Instead of the story of Bethlehem, this oldest of Christmas Masses tells the meaning of the incarnation. St. John recites the pre-history of Jesus Christ: the Word, existing before time, coming from God and equal with God, is made flesh, shares our mortal condition. God speaks his Word: in the man Jesus we encounter God. As perfect image of the Father, Christ makes God’s glory visible in the world. Now we can know and see him! In sharing our life Christ shows us its full meaning. Never before had God done that, the letter to the Hebrews reminds us. This Son shares God’s own majesty now reveals him fully. God-become human in Jesus is the Good News of salvation for a world in today’s liturgy, bids us pay attention to God’s messenger who brings peace, happiness and salvation, and ushers in God’s rule. God has immersed himself in the world to redeem us. We have reason to sing and shout for joy.

Archdiocese of Toronto Celebrates 175th Anniversary
December 17 marks the 175th anniversary of the Arch-diocese of Toronto, kicking off a year-long celebration of this historic milestone. Originally part of the Diocese of Kingston, on December 17, 1841, Pope Gregory XVI formally created the Diocese of Toronto and named Michael Power its first bishop.
The Archdiocese of Toronto is planning numerous historical and spiritual activities to commemorate the 175th anniversary, including a large-scale celebration at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica on May 30, 2017. In acknowledging this significant anniversary, Cardinal Thomas Collins remarked:
“It is a tremendous blessing to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Toronto. It is always a joy to express my gratitude to those, past and present, who have made incredible contributions to our city, province and country, inspired by their faith. Over the next year, we will honour the past, energize our present faith community and look forward to an exciting future.”
More information on the Archdiocese of Toronto 175th celebrations can be accessed by visiting: www.archtoronto.org.
Merry Christmas!
Christmas Blessings and very best wishes for the coming year to all our parishioners!
