REFLECTION

The Lenten use of the story of the woman taken in adultery emphasizes that before God we are all sinners; the one who condemns incurs the greater sin. Jesus’ death makes available to all the forgiveness and peace which he gives to this sinful woman. She alone and not her partner, has been brought by Jesus’ enemies for a possible horrible death by stoning. They hope to trap this popular teacher: either he must ignore the mosaic law or discredit his own merciful teaching. As she stands in shame, Jesus takes attention away from her by writing in the sand. We see her renewed sense of self-worth as her shamed accusers leave the scene. Je-sus respects her human dignity; he refuses to condemn as he tells her not to sin again. The first reading en-courages us to forget our sinful past as God does. What greater reason do we need for praise? Since God has forgiven us, we should seek to be united with the Lord. To be holy is to pattern ourselves after Jesus’ death; then we will know him and be found in him.

DIVINE MERCY

Between 1930 and 1938 Jesus appeared to a young Sister of Mercy in Poland, Sister (now Saint) Faustina, and instruct-ed her to remind the world of His infinite love for us and the boundless mercy He makes available to everyone, especially the greatest sinners. He spoke of how much He is hurt when we distrust His mercy and goodness, urging that we return to Him now in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion, and that we ourselves be merciful always and everywhere to others.

Be sure to pick up and read the information and Novena pamphlets next Sunday and plan to start the 9-day Novena on Good Friday in preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday – April 3, 2016.

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO GIVE LIFE

Every 60 seconds someone in Canada needs blood, in cases of trauma, treatment of diseases and in surgeries. Although 50% of Canadians can donate, less than 4% of eligible donors do so. That means 96% of Canadians rely on a very small group of people to maintain a stable supply of blood for the country. The need is great.

If you are interested in donating blood, you can book an appointment by:
1. Visiting blood.ca
2. Call 1-888-2donate
3. Download the GiveBlood app on a mobile device

Though many people are off during March Break, the need for blood donation is critical. Please consider finding a time when you can visit the Canadian Blood Services clinic close to our parish at
Cedarbrook Community Centre, 91 East Park Blvd., Scarborough, Saturday, March 19, 2016 – 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
