REFLECTION
Today’s liturgy shows us the height and depth of Jesus’ life, from the triumphal entry into Jerusalem to this death on a cross a short time later. Only Paul’s letter alludes to the victory of Easter and Christ’s equality with God; Holy Week holds up to our contemplation the perfect obedience of this man who will die an abject death before being exalted as Lord of all creation. His good works are repaid with ill, much as Isaiah’s servant song shows the ministry of God’s disciple interrupted by persecution. Both the first reading and the psalm describe prophetically Jesus’ sufferings and both conclude with an expression of enduring trust in God’s help. According to Matthew and Mark, Jesus prayed this psalm as he hung on the cross. Its cry expresses abandonment, but its ending asserts resolve to continue the work of praise in the assembled community. Every Eucharist associates us with Christ as he offers his sac-rifice in our midst and continues his perfect praise of the Father.

DIVINE MERCY – APRIL 3, 2016
Sixteen years ago, Pope St. John Paul II established ‘Divine Mercy Sunday’ on the Sunday after Easter in response to Jesus’ request for this to St. Faustina in the 1930’s. Jesus said that it would be a day when, “I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who will approach the fount of My mercy”. He called it, “a refuge and shelter for all, especially poor sinners”, saying, “My heart rejoices on account of this Feast.” Come with complete TRUST in Jesus’ mercy on that day, Apr. 3rd, and ask for many, many graces for yourselves and others!
PREPARATION:
- NOVENA–BEGINS ON GOOD FRIDAY; to pray it with others, meet at the Divine Mercy image (beside the confessional) after ANY service that day, and after 9am Mass during Easter week.
- Acts of mercy–word, deed, prayer.
- Make a good Confession.
INFORMATION AND NOVENA PAMPHLETS are available at church exits. See the bulletin boards for details of the special HOUR of ADORA-TION and BENEDICTION on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3rd. For more information, call Bonnie Washer at 416-284-5772.
