REFLECTION
The passage reflects on the Gospel story of the road to Emmaus, where two disciples, discouraged after Passover and Jesus’ crucifixion, leave Jerusalem in grief and confusion. As they walk, a stranger joins them—unrecognized as the risen Christ—and listens to their story. He explains the Scriptures, helping them see meaning and hope in what had seemed like loss. Later, at table, they recognize him in the breaking of the bread, and he disappears from their sight. This moment transforms them, and they recall how their hearts had been burning as he spoke. The reflection invites readers to see their own lives in this story, especially in times of disappointment or uncertainty. It suggests that Christ may already be present in these moments, even if not immediately recognized. The Eucharist is presented as a place of encounter where believers are nourished, renewed, and brought together in community. Through prayer and participation, they are strengthened in faith. Ultimately, the message highlights transformation through encounter with Christ. Like the disciples who returned with renewed purpose, readers are encouraged to let their “burning hearts” move them to reconnect with others and live their faith actively in the world.
