REFLECTION
It is easy to hear today’s Gospel and wonder whether God is speaking harshly to us. But if we look closely at whom Jesus is addressing, the message becomes clearer. Jesus is not speaking primarily to ordinary believers. He is challenging the religious leaders who had lost sight of their mission. Rather than leading people into a deeper relationship with God, they had turned faith into a means of gatekeeping, judgment, and personal authority. This Gospel invites us to examine our own hearts. Whenever we reduce faith to a checklist of rules, constant scorekeeping, or harsh judgment of others, we risk losing sight of the heart of the Gospel. God’s vineyard was never meant to be a place of exclusion or control. It is a place where love, mercy, and compassion can grow and flourish. Jesus reminds us that the true fruit God desires is not power or status, but charity, freedom, mercy, and a sincere love for one another. When we remain rooted in these virtues, we become faithful stewards of the vineyard God has entrusted to our care.

DID YOU KNOW
| For St. Francis, caring for creation was an act of praise: the sun, moon, water, earth, birds, animals, and every creature could lead the human heart back to wonder and gratitude for the Creator? | |
| The practice of blessing animals, especially around October 4, is inspired in part by St. Francis’s deep love for God’s creatures, whom he regarded as brothers and sisters in the great family of creation? | |
| St. Francis teaches us that loving Christ means becoming instruments of peace and caretakers of creation, protecting the vulnerable, respecting every creature, and treating our common home as a gift entrusted to us by God? |
