Reflection

Today’s Easter gospel, which tells of the coming-to-faith of Peter and the beloved disciple John, is neither the most beautiful nor the most moving of those testimonies to the resurrection which all four gospels contain. But it is especially appropriate for us; unlike the loving women, we have not encountered angels at an empty tomb or been surprised by Christ’s appearing. Our belief must rest on God’s word in scripture and the witness of those before us (Peter’s homily in Acts is an example of the earliest preaching”). But our faith rests also on our own encounters with Christ through the persons and events of our lives. For his rising is not only historical fact.. Time cannot confine him: Christ lives today! Our communion with him is still hidden, our lives still swayed by evil. But one day Christ will be fully revealed; we shall join him in victory and live in the Father’s glory. Easter calls us to become new people, full of the joy of the living and glorious Lord. Alleluia!

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY – APRIL 8TH

The Novena began on Good Friday and continues through to Saturday, April 7th.

Regarding Divine Mercy Sunday, Jesus’ words “The soul that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion on that day shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment” speak of a gift of grace equaled only by that of Holy Baptism.

To receive this most singular grace, we must also:

1) Have performed some act of mercy

2) Contemplate on that day the Mystery of Redemption as the greatest revelation of Divine Mercy towards us

3) Completely trust Jesus.

To specially celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy on April 8th there will be an hour of Adoration beginning at 2:45 p.m., closing with Benediction, blessing of personal Divine Mercy images and public Veneration of the Divine Mercy image.

Refreshments to follow. Donation of finger foods will be gratefully accepted and all are welcome to join us!

See posters at church exits for details or call Bonnie Washer at 416-284-5772.

SHARELIFE

Living the Gospel by evangelizing our faith in the greater world

Gia Lao Parish resides in the mountainous Diocese of Xuan Loc in Vietnam. Its parishioners, mostly poor, work on the hillside farms. The Pastoral Mission Fund, with the support of ShareLife provided a one-time grant so the parish could acquire resources it could not otherwise provide. This includes bibles and hymnals, along with training for 60 catechists, who lead marriage preparation and catechism classes. With your support, Gia Lao Church is bringing faith to a community in the greater world.
