REFLECTION

The Good News of Jesus Christ means a new creation: new heavens and earth, humanity renewed. Now we are free to become what God intended from the beginning. As Mark’s gospel opens, the Baptist’s urgent preaching calls us to do more than hear the news of Jesus’ coming. We must prove our commitment to him by conversion of heart and confession of sin. John promises that the one whose way he prepares will baptize with the Holy Spirit; it is this Spirit which makes us new people. Like the holy city Jerusalem of the first reading, we become the dwelling place where God reveals his glory. God’s nearness consoles and gives joy, for God is patient, giving to each of us the time we need for conversion. With patient longing we who have known God intimately await the final return of the Lord. We must prepare for that great Day of the Lord by living lives consecrated to God. Then his work of creating us anew will be complete.

Please continue your support for ShareLife. Today, though they have achieved 88% of their parish goal, they are still behind in achieving the $13.8 million parish goal.
