Reflection

Today’s gospel presents the death of Christ as the ultimate sign of God’s healing love. In veiled language Jesus speaks of the necessity of his crucifixion, when he will be lifted up from the earth. Just as the Israelites were healed when they looked with faith at the bronze serpent held up by Moses, so will humankind be healed when it gazes with faith at Jesus on the cross. Then we will understand how much God loves us: so much as to send the Son (we recognize him in the first reading among God’s rejected messengers) to be totally available to us. However, it is not enough that God’s Son came into the world. Each of us must either accept him as saviour and believe, or reject him: the choice is ours. Christ’s coming constitutes judgement. If our actions are good, we will not fear when Christ’s light illuminates our lives. Like a work of art, we cannot take credit for our own creation; no, we are God’s work by faith in Christ. This faith is God’s gift to us; thanks be to God!

Almsgiving helps us recognize our neighbour as our brother or sister, and to acknowledge that what we possess is never ours alone.

YOUTH MINISTRY EDGE

Do you know that the word “sacrifice” comes from 2 Latin words: sacer (Sacred or Holy) and facere (to make). In EDGE we chose Lenten sacrifices that would help “make us Holy”. We also made Lenten Pretzels and participated in a Shadow Stations of the Cross.

Grade 6, 7 and 8's come join us on March 23rd.

SHARELIFE

Living the Gospel by supporting ShareLife

How do we “Live the Gospel” toward others when our daily lives are so busy? For some it’s volunteering at a soup kitchen, or it may be caring for an elderly relative. If we do not have the time to actively participate, we can support the many ShareLife-funded agencies within our community that bring the hands of Christ to those in need. Next Sunday is the first ShareLife collection. Over the next week, reflect on your ability to help “Live the Gospel” through Catholic agencies, and make a decision to support our ShareLife parish campaign.

March 18 is ShareLife Sunday. Please give generously.

LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary is looking to recruit new junior members between the ages of 6-17. It’s not too early for young parishioners to learn and grow in the knowledge of their Catholic faith. Parents, come and see what the Junior Legion of Mary is all about. Meetings take place every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Hall’s basement. Our recruitment drive for Junior Members will take place on the weekend of March 17-18 after all the Masses.
